After having gained good response at its first session in March, the Young Members Committee of International Real Estate Federation (Fiabci)’s Malaysian Chapter now offers the second session of its Mentoring Programme this weeekend.
Held on June 29 at Dewan Berjaya, Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Country Resort, Kuala Lumpur, from 10am-12pm, this session features Ar. Eric Gan who will share his career story.
Architect Gan is the director of Conpex Group of companies and is a former National Council member of Fiabci Malaysia. With experience spanning over 30 years, Gan previously worked in corporations such as Petronas, Sunrise Bhd and the Singapore Housing Development Board.
The mentoring programme is a quarterly-held event, featuring different speakers in each session sharing the practical experiences gained during their careers.
The series started off explosively, having invited controversial MCA politician and businessman, Tan Koon Swan, as the speaker.
Born into a poor family in a remote area of Puchong in the 1940s, Tan shared that his first business lesson was helping to deliver the buns made by his mother for consignment at the age of 12.
Upon completion of his secondary school studies, he worked as a clerk at Lembaga Letrik Negara (LLN), the precursor to Tenaga Nasional Berhad, and studied part time to become a laboratory assistant. He then left and became an income tax officer at Inland Revenue Department for seven years. He then worked with Esso as a tax consultant where he was exposed to eye-opening life lessons and experiences.
At the age of 30, Tan was appointed by the late Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong to work as general manager at Genting Highlands Bhd. At the same time, Tan’s political journey began in 1977 and sparkled through until mid-1980s, when he was put behind bars for two years.
It was his faith that saw him through the darkest hour, however, and he advised the audience to stay strong to their own faith as they navigate their career paths.
For the upcoming session, 100 seats are available.
