Concerts to feature classic Mandopop, Cantopop and Shanghai jazz

Don’t miss it!: Tiew (centre) at the press conference for Andaman’s 2014 charity and cultural events.
PROPERTY developer Andaman will be hosting two concerts, to be staged at Syuen Hotel, Ipoh on Sept 25 and 26, in support of local music industry.
The first concert will feature The Amazing Trio (aka TAT) with the special theme “A Cantopop Tribute to 4 Heavenly Kings” while the second night is themed “The Opulent Sounds of Shanghai” where Janet Lee & May Mow will perform.
TAT combines the fabulous vocals, harmony and entertaining stage antics of three young singers – Yan Yeh Foong, Worm Lee and Kaho Loh.
They appeal to the masses with their comedy, impromptu jokes and great singing. Their usual repertoire consists of Mandopop and Cantopop classics.
Expect 25 of the best and most memorable mega-hit songs of Cantopop icons Leslie Cheung, Danny Chan, Jacky Cheung and Alan Tam, refreshed in modern pop and jazz arrangements.
The inimitable and sassy duo of Lee and Mow, meanwhile, will be performing a bilingual (Mandarin and English) repertoire of classic Shanghai jazz tunes reminiscent of the famed Paramount Nightclub of the Old Shanghai in the 1950s and 1960s with a modern twist.
Lee specialises in great vintage music from the 1920s to the 1960s, from the American Songbook standard, Shanghai Jazz and Broadway showtunes to operatic arias and art songs. She is a theatrical as well as a consummate cabaret performer.
Mow is an up-and-coming star with alluring good looks and voice.
The concerts’ music director is Tay Cher Siang, who will be charming the audience with his music arrangements and breathtaking skills on the piano.
Andaman will play host to their loyal customers, VIPs, consultants, contractors, media and the public.
Members of the public who wish to attend the concert need to buy Sin Chew Jit Poh, Nanyang Siang Pau or China Press newspapers to redeem the tickets at the Upper East Sales Gallery.
Seats for the public are limited to 500 per concert.
Andaman is also organising a line-up of 10 events and shows on Sept 6 in Ipoh to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. The programme, which includes Chinese musical instruments performance and a laser lion dance show, is scheduled for 6pm to 11pm.
There will be hundreds of mooncake giveaways and thousands of lanterns provided for the lantern procession.
The night of celebration will end with a 10- minute fireworks show.
Andaman’s latest project in Ipoh is the luxurious Upper East @ Tiger Lane apartments.
